Energy and Offshore Construction
From pipelines in South East Asia to power stations in the Middle East, from oilfields in the Caspian to wind turbines off the UK coastline, we have exceptional experience in all aspects of energy-related disputes. We can provide a rapid service in line with the demands of our clients and pride ourselves on our reputation for getting to grips with the technical detail of cases without overlooking the necessary commercial priorities.
Oil & Gas: We have acted in disputes arising from the construction of some of the largest oil and gas infrastructure projects, including oilfield development, large transcontinental pipelines, offshore hook-up projects, marine terminals and strategic oil and gas storage facilities. We frequently represent clients in claims concerning the sale and construction of rigs, drill-ships and offshore support vessels. Typically, the issues include contract cancellation, delay and extensions of time, variations and defective work and quantum. However, our oil and gas experience extends beyond construction disputes into claims concerning the operation of exploration joint ventures, geophysical survey, well construction, drilling contracts, joint operating agreements, well-swap agreements and long-term supply agreements.
Power production: our experience ranges from disputes over mining and fuel supply agreements to power purchase agreements. Our members have acted in cases across the entire range of power plants including lignite and coal-fired plants, as well as nuclear, gas and combined-cycle facilities. Our recent work on power production cases encompasses disputes in Europe, Africa the Middle East and Asia and we have unrivalled experience in handling disputes of a technical nature, as well as those involving issues of delay, the failure to meet performance guarantees and disputes regarding performance bonds.
Renewables: we have been involved in cases concerning a significant number of onshore and offshore wind farms. These have involved highly technical disputes relating to foundation design, corrosion, weld defects and cabling, as well as purer commercial disputes. We have acted in cases concerning biomass-fired furnaces, waste-to-power generators, hydro-electric schemes and solar power plants in Europe and the Middle East. As well as cases with a high technical content, we have also acted in cases involving disputes over carbon credits, packaging waste credits, and emission reduction purchase agreements.
Our energy practice is complemented by our broader areas of expertise including shipping, commodities/sale of goods, insurance, information technology disputes and professional negligence.
